Catch-Up, Move-On

Friday was another day-trip to some sites that are relatively close to London.

1st stop: Runnymede
-monument in the place where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215 by King John (the Disney Robin Hood song anyone? "The phony king of England?" Yep...same guy)
                 -monument to JFK
*the entire site was actually given to an American organization which felt that the signing of the Magna Carta needed to be recognized (I found it slightly strange that Britain had not already done something for that...) and also added a little side thing for JFK

2nd stop: Windsor Castle
-the place of residence for the Queen of England on certain weekends when she wants to get away
-attractions for tourists include: the ceremonial changing of the guard, Queen Mary's Doll House, and a tour of the State Apartments (my favorite part)
*Windsor is very impressive in size and decorations, highly recommend a visit there if you are even in England

3rd stop: Stoke Poges
-monument erected to Thomas Grey near the churchyard that inspired his most famous poem with bits of that poem engraved on the sides (good poem by the way entitled "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard")
*seeing as I am not a huge Thomas Grey fan and didn't really know who he was...I wasn't as interested in this site...
                                                     -Thomas Grey's tomb/grave site

P.S. The photo on the very top is of Stephanie and I for our grandparents who are good friends :) Enjoy Grandma!
